Kayaking Classes & Personal Instruction
Although no experience is necessary to enjoy a tour with Smoky Mountain Kayaking since each tour begins with basic paddling instruction by your guide, many want to expand on their kayaking capabilities. It's no wonder why kayaking is one of the fastest growing outdoor activities in the world. Smoky Mountain Kayaking offers group instruction from Introduction to Kayaking to Rolling Clinics. For those who rather personal instruction on particular skills, we also offer private lessons. We are positive that your confidence and comfort level on the water will increase after one of our classes.
Introduction to Lake Kayaking.
This 4 hour course will take you through all the basics from identifying the different types of kayaks to the basic "how to's" on the lake in a supportive environment. You will learn to enter and exit your kayak, how to adjust your kayak for fit and comfort, safety equipment and its purpose, basic rescue techniques, essential paddling strokes, the wet exit and much more! Don't forget snacks and drinks to keep your energy up during your breaks. Prerequisites: Able to swim.

Lake Kayaking and Beyond.
This 4 hour course is designed for paddlers with skills in basic paddling and are ready for the next level. Learn to paddle with grace and style with energy efficient paddling strokes. Learn multiple bracing positions, edging, sculling, unassisted rescues and group rescues, use of float bags and stirups. Learn to paddle smarter not harder and do it with class! Breaks will be available for snacking and drying off in the sun. Oh yes, you will be getting wet. Don't forget your lunch!Prerequisites: Comfortable with wet exits.

Private Instruction.
For those looking for a more customized training session or wanting to work on specific techniques, we can arrange for a private class. Working one on one with our guides in 2-hour sessions can accelerate the learning process and boost confidence quicker than in a group class. For those kayak owners who want to get the most out of thier boats, bring it along.
